HI Harper's Ferry :: Hostel in Maryland, USA

The Hostel Experience

What it's like to stay overnight at this hostel

Staying at hostels is a great way to travel and see the sights at a fraction of the cost of hotels and other overnight accommodations.  It is also a great way to meet all sorts of interesting people, share travel tales, make new friends, and find people to explore with.

Monday through Thursday HI-Harpers Ferry is closed between 10am and 4pm.  If you aren't out exploring the area; you are welcome to relax on our front porch, utilize one of the picnic benches throughout the campground, or enjoy our side porch.  The FREE WiFi can be accessed at most of our outside sitting areas.  If you arrive while the hostel is closed you can wait on the porch. If camping, you can go ahead and set up your tent.

On Friday and Saturday you have access to the facility throughout the day.  On Sundays the hostel closes from Noon to 4pm.  Quite hours are from 11pm to 8am, though you may hang out in the common areas so long as you respect those who are sleeping.  The hostel door is locked at 11pm, however we will soon offer after hours access to those who would like it.

The hostel has 36 bunk beds divided into a 12 bed female dorm, a 14 bed male dorm, a 6 bed with one double family/coed/private dorm, and a four bed with double family/private dorm.  All bathroom facilities are shared with separate mens and womens bathrooms and showers.  The overnight price includes sheets, a towel, and blankets on the beds.  We have a full guest use kitchen with double stoves, a microwave, double refrigerators, and everything you would need to cook with.  You supply your own food for cooking.  We do offer a FREE make your own pancake breakfast starting July 4th of 2009.

Our common room has a large fireplace perfect for the colder early spring and fall seasons.  We have plenty of free books. boardgames, cards, and  other activities for you.  We offer a guest use payphone and FREE WiFi is available throughout the hostel and around the outside of the building.  A FREE guest use computer with Internet is available in the common room.  A washer and dryer is available for use - $4.00 for full loads, $2.00 for half loads.

We have camping available and your price includes access to inside facilities.  Hostellers are encouraged to utilize the fire pit for night time camp fires and cook outdoors on the many grills.  We have equipment for outdoor activities such as volleyball, frisbees, bikes, and innertubes.  You use the bikes and innertubes at your own risk.

We ask that our guests be considerate of each other, and that they try to leave the hostel in a clean and neat condition.

The people who stay here are as varied as the human race. We are a "youth hostel" only in the sense that you must be YOUNG AT HEART to enjoy staying here. Generally speaking, we often host hikers, bicyclists, European and Australian students on vacation, boy and girl scout groups, church groups, and school groups. We hope to see you soon!
